Eurobus is cheaper for adults but more expensive for the kids with a flat fee of €1
Bus Eireann offers a 15 minute service
Eurobus runs ever 60 minutes, but unlike Bus Eireann it always sticks to its timetable and arrives on time
Bus Eireann buses are slightly better kept, better designed (for accessibility and to combat crowding).
Overall if you have a disability, dont mind when exactly you go and/or are under 16 take Bus Éireann. But if you want a reliable service and/or pay full adult fare take Eurobus.

Hi, me again! Keeping on with your sugestion, I had to ring Bus Eireann three times already this week. Finished work at 5 on monday. At 5.17 the eurobus passed on, but they did not stop in the Plassy stop as it was packed to the rafters. A Bus Eireann bus followed in tow, only to keep going du to overcrowing too. Just for the weather condition I would have walked home. Got-eventually a bus back to town at 5.45.

As there were already around a dozen polish wrokers waiting thereas well, I decided to better my chances by walking to the previous bus stop. Euro bus packed. Next Bus Eireann bus? You are just going to laugh: ten to six. I arrived home at an amazng 6.20 after finishing my working day at 4.30!! Isn;t it wonderful how the more we complain, the worse they treat us??
By the way, got a very irated woman over the phone that slammed receiver on me! Some customer services too! Hope wather clears and can come back walking every day.

ReplyDeleteAs a proud Limerickman who has been living away from the city for almost 10 years I want to give my view on Limerick's transport situation from the eyes of an expat:
I have just returned from London to visit my mum in hospital. After getting a cab to home in Castletroy I dropped my bags off and in naivity decide to get a bus to the Regional Hospital.
11.20am: We have no control over Limerick's weather so I will refrain from commenting on the driving drizzle that blinded me as I searched for a bus stop near Chawkes on the Dublin road. Couldn't find one but was told to make my way up to The Hurlers where, nestled under a tree, I did find a pole masquerading as a bus stop.
11.30am: Upon reading the weather beaten timetable posted on aforementioned pole I was delighted discover that buses to this part of town were quite regular. I stood facing east squinting against the drizzle with nothing but the branch of an evergreen for shelter.
11.53: I am now talking to myself in an effort to forget the sheer feeling of misery in my bones. Was going to get a taxi a moment ago but realised how much it would cost me so decided against. A child in a pram is wailing as its mother drains water from inside the pram.
12.07pm: At the Kilmurry end of the Hurlers Roundabout I see a vision. A long white vehicle is making its way towards us. I squelch onto the bus paying my nominal fee and attempt to find solace in the fact that others have it far worse - in countries such as the Sudan, Somalia and Nepal.
12.30pm: Limerick is looking well even against the grey skies. I am dropped off near O'Connell St and now must find out where to get a bus to the hospital. After much to-ing and fro-ing I realise that this stop is hidden amongst the throngs of people who take shelter under the Brown Thomas awning. My bus to Dooradoyle is due in 10 minutes according to a rather hyper looking man dressed in a Bus Eireann outfit. I notice a bus arrive, its passengers disembarking and the driver turning off the engine, getting out, locking the door and heading off (presumably for a bite to eat and a smoke) leaving the bus idle in the heart of the city centre. It is now over an hour since commencing my hospital sojourn from Castletroy and I am half way there.
12.43pm: Bus number two on my way to Dooradoyle. Bit of an issue though - O'Connell St is impossible to get through and traffic gets even worse as we hit Souths. Where are the shagging bus lanes I ask myself.
12.57: Haven’t hit the Crescent Shopping centre yet and I am starting to loose my mind. This is not the way life is supposed to be. I only wanted to make a simple commute and I feel like checking into 5B when I reach the regional.
1.13pm: I never thought I would be so happy to see the concrete structure of the hospital. The smell of disinfectant seems to purge me any ill feelings I have towards a places that calls itself a city and yet offers the most dreadful public service I have come across.
In London I pay a hell of a lot to get around the city but at least I know my bus or my tube will come when it says it will. I can find out where a bus is from my phone, look at timetables in comfortable shelters, use a simple top up card instead of coins and sit on a seat without worrying if it is piss-stained or lumped with chewing gum.
Maybe it is time that Irish public services started to focus on priding itself on service and not treating passengers as if they were doing us a favour.
